The Master of Science inNursing with Nurse Practitioner (NP) Specialties offers the Adult-Gerontology NursePractitioner (AGNP), Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), Pediatric Nurse Practitioner–PrimaryCare (PNP-PC), and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) specialties.

Admission Requirements—Domestic Applicants

Theuniversity graduateand program admission requirements below must be met before an application is consideredcomplete.

  • Graduate application for admission
  • $45 nonrefundable application fee
  • Official transcripts from all institutions leading to and awarding the applicant’sbachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution and all postbaccalaureatestudy

    An official transcript is one that Azusa Pacific University receives unopened in anenvelope sealed by the former institution and that bears the official seal of thecollege or university. A cumulative minimum 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) grade-point averageon the posted degree is required for regular admission status. Provisional admittancemay be granted to individuals with a lower GPA if competency can be shown throughmultiple measures.
  • Transcripts should show completion of a BSN from a NLN- or CCNE-accredited program.Transcripts should also indicate completion of the following prerequisite undergraduatecourses: health assessment, pathophysiology, nursing research, statistics, nursingleadership, and community health nursing.
  • Written statement, one to two pages in length:
    • Describe your professional nursing goals
    • Articulate your personal definition of nursing and concept of career opportunitiesin this field
  • Copy of RN license status, including your name (find status on CA.gov'sBreezesystem)
  • Current résumé, including the following:
    • Employment and educational experience
    • Professional or academic honors
    • Volunteer activities
  • Two recommendations from professional references who have the ability to evaluateyour performance (e.g. managers, supervisors, and academic faculty; not coworkers)

Admission Requirements—International Applicants

Azusa Pacific University is authorized under federal law by the U.S. Citizen and ImmigrationServices and the U.S. Department of State to enroll nonimmigrant, alien undergraduateand graduate students. APU issues and administers both the I-20 and DS 2019 (F-1 andJ-1 status documents, respectively).

To apply for a graduate program at APU, the following requirements must be fulfilledin addition to meeting the domestic applicant andprogram-specific admission requirementsspecified above.

International applicants must also:

  • Demonstrate proficiency in English through a placement test with theAcademic Success Center, or through a TOEFL/IELTS score that meets program-specific requirements. Refer toAPU’sEnglish proficiency requirementsto learn more. Request that official test scores be sent to APU. All other formsof proof indicated in the English proficiency requirements must be submitted directlyto International Services.
  • Provide aGraduate Affidavit of Financial Support (PDF)and a bank statement from within the last six months proving financial ability topay for education costs through personal, family, or sponsor resources.
  • Submit a copy of a valid passport showing biographical data, including your name,country of citizenship, date of birth, and other legal information.
  • Get foreign transcripts evaluated. International credentials (transcripts, certificates,diplomas, and degrees) must be evaluated by a foreign transcript evaluation agency.View our policy and a list of approvedForeign Transcript Evaluation Agencies.

What to Expect

After all admission materials have been received by theStudent Services Center, the faculty or department chair reviews the applicant’s file. The applicant is notifiedin writing of the admission decision.

Transfer of Credits

Following admission, 9 units of approved graduate work completed elsewhere may beapplied toward the MSN degree. Advanced Health Assessment may be considered for transfercredit if it was taken postlicensure as a registered nurse and the student was enrolledin an advanced practice nursing program. Advanced Pharmacology may be considered fortransfer credit towardGNRS 594Pharmacology in Advanced Practice Nursing if it was taken less than 24 months priorto the APU MSN program admit date.

Nurse Faculty Loan Program

The Nurse Faculty Loan Program is a government loan program set up to increase thenumber of qualified nursing faculty by providing loans to students in advanced nursingeducation programs. Students must be pursuing a MSN or doctoral nursing degree. TheNFLP loans will be forgiven—up to 85 percent of the amount received—over a consecutivefour-year period if the student commits to serve as full-time faculty at a schoolof nursing following graduation. Faculty at private universities, state schools, andcommunity colleges are eligible. Students receiving these loans must also completethe nursing education courses prior to graduation.
