Tread Pattern: One way to tell what do slip-resistant shoes look like is by their tread pattern. Look for circular or hexagonal patterns, as these are designed to channel liquids away from the foot, increasing traction.

Does rubber sole mean slip resistant? ›

Does a rubber sole always make a shoe slip-resistant? No. All slip-resistant shoes have rubber soles, but not all rubber soles are slip-resistant. The best outsoles for a slip-resistant shoe are made with soft rubber that can go against oil and grease and must be treaded.

ADA – At that point, that ADA went on to state that in order to be deemed “slip resistant”, flooring must have a static coefficient of friction of 0.6 on level surfaces and 0.8 for ramps.

Higher COF slip resistance numbers are better than lower numbers. Clean, dry items moving against each other tend to have COF ratings ranging from 0.3 to 0.6. Very slippery items can dip as low as 0.04, with zero meaning that the two items have no friction at all.
