Crispy Honey Chilli Cauliflower is a super addictive starter - fried cauliflower florets are tossed in a honey chilli sauce that's sweet and spicy. It is a perfect appetizer for small parties or gatherings!
This chilli cauliflower is a great appetizer and it is served in many restaurants. It is similar to Indo Chinese starter, in this recipe you can adjust the sauces and thickness of the gravy according to your taste buds. It pairs well with Jeera rice and chilli garlic fried rice.

Ingredients
TO MAKE BATTERED CAULIFLOWER
- Cauliflower florets
- All purpose flour/ Maida
- Corn flour
- Red chilli powder
- Salt to taste
- Oil
TO MAKE SAUCE
- Chopped onion
- Garlic cloves
- Soy sauce
- Red chilli sauce
- Tomato ketchup
- Black pepper powder
- Honey
- Spring onion
- Water
- Salt
TO MAKE SLURRY
- Corn flour
- water

Instructions to make chilli cauliflower
Cut the cauliflower into small florets and then add the florets to a bowl and pour hot water. Cover and keep aside for 10 minutes.
In a bowl, add all-purpose flour, cornflour, red chilli powder and salt. Then, mix well by adding water slowing into a smooth and lump-free batter.
Now drain the water completely from the florets and keep it aside.
Heat a frying pan with oil for deep frying and then dip the florets into the batter and slowly drop them into the oil - Don't overcrowd the pan.
Next, deep fry the florets on medium flame until they turn crispy and into a golden, brown colour.
Then, take them into a plate lined with a kitchen towel and keep it aside.
Now, heat a pan with oil and so once the oil is hot, add chopped onion, chopped garlic and saute for a few minutes.
Then add soya sauce, red chilli sauce, tomato ketchup, black pepper powder and salt to taste and mix well.
Now add the honey and mix well.
Add water to the mixture and mix well. Now make a slurry by mixing cornflour with water without any lumps and add slowly to the gravy and mix well.
Now add the fried cauliflower and coat well with the gravy. Add the spring onion and mix well and switch off the flame.
Enjoy the taste and crispy cauliflower starter when it is hot.

Honey Chilli Cauliflower Variations
If you want your chilli cauliflower to be dry, don't add the cornflour slurry to the sauce and reduce the quantity of onion and garlic.
For the sauce, version add ½ cup of water more to the chilli sauce.
Top tip
Make sure the batter is not too thick or thin. It should be of medium consistency and forests should coat nicely.
Drain the water completely from the cauliflower and allow them to dry completely before adding to the batter.
Fry the cauliflower florets in a medium flame only.
Notes
- Adjust spices according to your taste
